A NOTE FROM THE MAKER

Why I made Snugsaw

On a road trip to Lofoten, Norway, I bought a thousand-piece jigsaw puzzle. My daughter and I spent the next couple of months putting it together, a little at a time—after school and on weekends.

Working on that puzzle became one of my favourite memories with her. Sitting together, doing something calm, watching her concentrate on a puzzle that was a real challenge at four years old. I was proud of her, and I loved having something we could keep coming back to together.

I wanted us to do more. But moving an unfinished puzzle, then coming back and trying to remember where we’d left off, was tiring and a little frustrating. We also didn’t have much space to keep more of the finished ones.

That’s where Snugsaw began. I know it can’t replace the feeling of a puzzle piece in your hand. But I wanted to re-create some of the experience: something we could settle into together, leave for a while, and come back to.

Is it free?

Yes. You can start making and playing puzzles for free.

Where do my photographs go?

Your photographs stay on your device. Making and playing a puzzle doesn't upload them. When sharing your own photo puzzles becomes available, choosing to share one will upload that puzzle's image so friends and family can play it.

Do I need an account?

No account is needed to make or play puzzles. When sharing your own photo puzzles becomes available, you'll need an account to create links for friends and family.

Can I play offline?

Yes. The app for iPhone and iPad works offline from the first time you open it. In a browser, open it once while you're online and it keeps working without a connection.

Can I come back to a puzzle later?

Yes. Your puzzle waits where you left it, in the browser or the app you made it in, on that device.

Can I choose how easy or challenging it is?

Yes. Choose how many pieces you'd like and how much help you want. Keep it simple, or settle into something more challenging.
